In this talk, I will introduce a new type of quantum phase dubbed “quantum slush state”. By performing an unbiased large-scale quantum Monte Carlo simulation, we investigate a minimal model describing the facilitated excitation in Rydberg atom arrays, and find that the wavefunction of its ground state is composed of configurations with fractal branching structures. This state features a quasi-long-range order (correlation functions with algebraic decay) as well as a heterogeneous structure of liquid and glass mixture, thus is different from most well-established quantum phases of matter.

蔡子,2010年于中国科学院物理研究所凝聚态理论专业取得博士学位。先后在美国加州大学圣迭戈分校,德国慕尼黑大学,奥地利科学院量子光学与量子信息研究所从事博士后工作。现任上海交通大学物理与天文学院教授,博士生导师。主要从事凝聚态物理以及相关领域的数值计算和理论方面的工作,主要研究领域涉及强关联电子系统,光晶格中的超冷原子,开放量子多体系统,非平衡统计物理,机器学习方法在物理学中的应用等方向, 近年来发表括1篇Science、12篇 Phys.Rev.Lett.在内的SCI论文四十余篇。
